THE LORD’S PRAYER

The prayer of Jesus is a powerful prayer.  It is not a wish list, or a vague hope.  He doesn’t add the phrase, “Not My will but Yours be done.”  No, He and the Father are of one mind and one heart on the precise contents of this prayer.

We have all heard the words “Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” recited in rapid-fire fashion.  Let’s take another look at these words.

In Latin, the words “hallowed be,”  “come,” and “be done” have a verbal exclamation point after them.  The English equivalent is:

Hallowed be!—Thy name.

Thy kingdom—come!

Thy will—be done!

(All of the above) on earth (just) as it is in heaven!

These are not mere wishes or vague hopes.  They boldly call into existence what is being prayed.

The hidden mystery remains—how, when, and in what manner will the prayer be fully answered?  However, there is absolutely no doubt that the powerful prayer of Jesus will be answered.  Amen!

May we all say the Lord’s Prayer as Jesus did—calling into existence, with confident expectation, what is stated.
