THE HEART, NOT EMOTIONALISM

The heart does not refer to the emotions.  We are not talking about building a life on fleeting, fickle feelings.

The heart is one of those words that has a meaning deeper than words can express.  Core of our being, the focal point in the soul, the chamber where all our life principles are stored, the place out of which we really live, the focal point of our lives, the storehouse of all that we truly are, the possessor of our undisguised self.  Pick one, or say it your own way.

The heart is not merely the physical human heart, though that is a handy reference point.

As Christians, it is also the place where our divine life, our life in Christ resides—shackled, but desperately trying to break loose and replace our sinful self.  Dying to self fits in here.  Losing our life, we find it.  After all, we are a new creation, not a patched up old one.   Who we really are is found in the heart.
