DISCOVERING JESUS

 April 16 – May 28, 2008

Discovering Jesus is an exciting event designed to help you encounter the person of Jesus

and accept His invitation to know Him in a personal relationship.

Listen to dynamic teachings, engage in small group discussions, and explore answers to questions like:

Why does Jesus Matter?

Does He really love me personally?

What gives meaning & purpose to my life?

Where is Jesus when I’m in pain?

Why do I need a Savior?

The Holy Spirit – Who is He?

Does God have a plan for my life?

How can I begin this new life?

How do I grow from here?

 Believing & Belonging:

How do I live  as a disciple of Jesus?

The Seminar is designed as an introduction to a life lived in the power of the Holy Spirit. It provides an opportunity for people to find out more about that life, and to be helped in taking the first steps of a new relationship with the Lord. The Seminar is concerned with the most basic part of Christian life: to establish a person in Christ.

There are seven talks to the Life in the Spirit Seminar and they are:

   1. God's Love

This talk is mainly introductory. The presentation talks in a simple way about God's love and His desire to have a personal relationship with us.

   2. Salvation

The second talk focuses on the need of people to change their lives from the way modern society thinks to a way that reorients them to a life in the Holy Spirit. This presentation explains the basic Gospel message.

    3. The New Life

This talk centers on the promise of the New Life. It helps people to realize the goodness of the Gift being offered and explains what it means to be baptized in the Spirit.

    4. Receiving God's Gift

The Seminar in the fourth week prepares each participant for commitment to Christ and being baptized in the Spirit. Here it is explained how to turn to the Lord and what is involved in being baptized in the Spirit.

    5. Praying for Baptism in the Spirit

Here people are led to a commitment in Christ and are prayed with to be baptized in the Spirit and to receive the Gift of Tongues.

Baptism in the Holy Spirit
Central to the experience of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal is what is known as "Baptism in the Holy Spirit." This is not viewed as some kind of "eighth sacrament" but rather as a renewal in the Holy Spirit already received in Baptism and Confirmation.

Many Catholic charismatics testify to a greater sense of the presence and love of God, a greater taste for prayer and Scripture reading, a desire to witness to others and the experience of one or more of the charismatic gifts already referred to.

    6. Spiritual Growth

Here people are shown stages to go forward with the Life in the Spirit and are helped in making concrete steps to be a part of Community life.

    7. Transformation in Christ

This is the final session. People here are encouraged to make the decisions and changes in their lives to preserve the new life they have begun to experience.

Small discussion groups follow each teaching  allowing you to open up and respond to the teachings. You can ask questions, share your thoughts and you  begin to experience Christian Community.

Each meeting last for about one and a half hours. Often times attendees linger and socialize and talk about that nights experience.
